Canton Woman Swindled Out of Nearly $10,000 by Internet Date

Police say the woman gave the man her bank account numbers.

On Sept. 5, A 41-year-old Canton woman reported an unauthorized transaction on her bank account after she gave her account information to a man she was dating online, according to a police report. 

The woman told police she was dating a man named 'Dan Hastings' that she had met on Plenty of Fish.com. She also said she had never met him in person, the report said.

The woman said she recently gave the man her TCF bank account numbers and that he was in Asia on a business trip, the report said.

The woman told police that she believes he wrote a check on her account for $9,900, leaving her only $10. She told police that she did not give him permission to do so, the report said.

The woman told police she did not wish to seek prosecution, that she only wanted the incident documented for her bank, the report said.
