City of Plymouth OKs Replacement Equipment Purchases for Fire Department

Now that the City of Northville Fire Department has moved back into the Plymouth Fire Station, the City of Plymouth is focusing its attention on replacing equipment lost in the fire on June 9.

The department lost nearly 5,000 feet of various sized fire hose during the fire, which is still under investigation.

City Manager Paul Sincock said the department had just completed pressure testing on a lot of hose, so it was on the drying racks next to the truck that burned. All of the hose near the truck was destroyed.

Insurance will cover the cost of replacing the hose, Sincock said Monday night during a City Commission meeting.

City Commissioners approved a resolution to purchase the hose at the lowest bid from Moses Fire Equipment Inc. for $11,339.80.

In addition, four radios were also lost in the fire: two which were mounted in the truck as mobile units and two which were portable walkie talkie radio chargers that were in the truck.

The city was able to purchase radios under state of Michigan contract so they were able to obtain state pricing. The lowest bid came from Advanced Wireless Telecom for $7,225.10.

The new radios include a EF Johnson 800 megahertz mobile radio, a Motorola VHF Mobile Radio and two EF Johnson 800 megahertz portable radios with car charging units.

Insurance covered these costs as well.

Sincock said the fire station is fully operational, despite the equipment losses.

"They're still doing a lot of punch list items inside, but i twas important that we get the fire trucks back in the building and that we respond from the city," he said.

Commissioner Ed Hingelberg, who also sits on Northville Plymouth Fire Advisory Board, said it might be nine months or more before the city is able to replace the fire truck that was destroyed.
