Crime Report: Canton Woman Reports Break-In Attempt

The following information was provided by the Canton Township and Plymouth Township police departments. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

responded July 30 to the 8500 block of Honeytree for a report of a home invasion in progress, according to a police report.

A person at the apartment told a dispatcher someone was trying to enter her first-floor apartment, who she believed was her ex—boyfriend. She told the dispatcher she had a personal protection order against the man.

She told police she was in bed and could hear someone trying to enter her apartment. She told police the suspect tried to enter the door, and then heard someone at her bedroom window trying to open the window, the report said. She told police she heard the man say “Hello?” before she heard the person trying enter her daughter’s bedroom window.

Police arrived and surrounded the building and noticed the suspect had apparently left the scene, the report said. Police observed pry marks near the door and near the north side window of the apartment.

While checking a parking lot adjacent to the apartment, police saw a blue vehicle parked in the lot and saw a man matching the description of the ex-boyfriend lying in the back seat of the car. Police ordered the man to place his hands on the back of the front seat several times before he complied, and then was ordered out of the vehicle, onto the ground and handcuffed, the report said.

The man told police he was an illegal citizen in the U.S. from Mexico and had been here illegally for seven years and provided an expired Mexico passport.

Police arrested the man on charges of violating a personal protection order and attempted home invasion. The man told police he would like the Mexico Consulate notified.

The woman told police she does not wish to prosecute at this time.

Laptop computer reported stolen

responded July 26 to Gold Arbor for a report of a stolen laptop computer, according to a police report.

The homeowner told police that between midnight at 3 a.m., someone took the laptop off of her table, the report said. She told police her children have friends over and there are always people entering and leaving her home.

The woman told police she believes the last person in her home left the house at about midnight. When she woke up three hours later, she noticed her computer was missing. She told police she usually leaves her house unlocked.

Police have no suspects, but the computer’s serial number was entered in the system as stolen property.
