Crime Report: Hit-and-Run Accident Reported at Target in Canton

The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

responded Aug. 3 to , 47330 Michigan Ave., for a report of a hit-and-run accident, according to a police report.

When a woman exited the store, a witness told her someone in a white Buick had crashed into the passenger-side rear bumper of her vehicle and left the scene and the witness provided her with a license plate number, the report said.

Police followed the vehicle’s registration to a woman who told police her nephew was driving the vehicle, the report said.

The witness told police he was parked adjacent to the woman’s blue Chrysler in the parking lot when he noticed the Buick start to turn into the parking space in front of him and saw the driver of the Buick crash into the passenger-side rear bumper and tire of the Chrysler, the report said. Video surveillance at the store supported the witness’ account, the report said.

When the woman’s nephew returned home, he was cited on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and was given an Aug. 22 court date.
