Crime Report: Man Accused of Shoplifting, Obstructing Justice Faces Charges

The following information was provided by the Canton Township and Plymouth Township police departments. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

A officer was alerted of a fight near the west exit doors of , 39500 Ford Road, while in the parking lot of the store, according to a police report.

When the officer arrived inside the store he saw the store’s loss prevention employee wrestling with a man who he said had just stolen a cell phone charger, the report said. The officer then subdued and handcuffed the man.

 The loss prevention officer told police that after speaking with the officer on a prior complaint, he walked back to the electronics section of the store and saw the man select a phone charger, walk to the men’s clothing department and conceal the charger in his pocket before attempting to leave, the report said.

The man refused to accompany the loss prevention officer back to his office when prompted and the employee tried to restrain the man. The charger was valued at $5.48, the report said.

Police cited the man on charges of third-degree retail fraud and obstructing justice. He was given an Aug. 8 court date.

iPad reported missing from car in Plymouth Township

responded July 17 to Ball Street for a report of an Apple iPad 2 being taken from a vehicle, according to a police report.

The vehicle owner told police someone entered her white 2012 Ford Focus and stole her white Apple iPad 2 between July 13 and July 14.

The woman also reported a Diet Orange Crush soda container being emptied onto the rocker panel of her vehicle, but the spill did not cause any damage. She told police she had left the soda container in the cup holder of the vehicle.

The iPad 2 was reported into the department’s computers as stolen, but so far no leads have surfaced, the report said.
