Man Injured Cutting Open Cologne Package, Incident Caught on Walmart Video

The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

responded Aug. 1 to , 45555 Michigan Ave., for a report of a man acting suspiciously inside the store, according to a police report.

According to the report, the man was witnessed on video selecting cologne from the cosmetics aisle before heading to the sporting goods aisle and opened a 10-pack of razor blades. The man then was witnessed cutting open the package of cologne with a razor blade, cutting his finger in the process, then concealed the cologne.

The loss prevention officer told police the man then walked toward the front of the store grabbing a package of towels to stop the bleeding from his hand, the report said. The store’s loss prevention officer then apprehended the man, the report said.

While in the store's custody, he was given a bandage for his hand, but declined transportation to a hospital.

Police cited the man on third-degree retail fraud and gave him an Aug. 14 court date. According to the report, the man also had two warrants out with Canton Police.
