Crime Report: Man Injures Self With Gun While Walking Dogs

were dispatched May 5 to for a report of a man with who injured himself accidentally with his gun while walking near a school, according to a police report.

The victim, who had what appeared to be a close-contact gunshot wound near his right lower abdomen, told police he was carrying his Smith & Wesson .38 caliber pistol in his right coat pocket while walking his dogs on Cherry Hill Road east of Denton Road. He told police the pistol was loose in his pocket, but that he also had his hand in his pocket and wasn’t sure if he was gripping the grip or trigger, the report said.

The man told police that as he walked past some shrubbery near , a raccoon startled him and his dogs and he tensed up and the pistol discharged, striking him in the stomach, the report said. He told police he walked home and told his wife to take him to the hospital.

The man’s jacket had an apparent bullet hole, the report said.

Sam's Club reports TV thefts

Canton Police responded May 12 to , 39800 Ford Road, for a report of a man and woman attempting to take televisions from the store, according to a police report.

The store’s loss prevention officer told police he watched the two each select two televisions from the electronics area of the store, then walk to the store’s exit where the male quickly walked out with a 22-inch Vizio-brand LCD valued at $194.88 and a JVC 19-inch TV/DVD combo valued at $178.73 and jumped into a vehicle, while the woman set two JVC 19-inch TV/DVD combos at the door and walked out. The employee told police he also saw the woman take a package of Kenneth Cole tank tops valued at $13.98, concealed in her purse, from the store, the report said.

The man was seen leaving in a black car, possibly a Ford Fusion, the report said, with an obscured license plate.

Sunglasses reported missing from vehicle

Canton Township Police responded May 8 to the 41000 block of Singh for a report of Oakley sunglasses and loose change taken from a 2011 Ford Explorer, according to a police report.

The vehicle owners told police the vehicle was parked unlocked overnight and when they checked on it the next day, the items were missing and the tailgate of the vehicle was opened, the report said. They also told police another vehicle parked in the driveway had been broken into, but nothing was taken.

The owners told police this was the third time something like this had happened at their residence, the report said, and officers advised them to keep their car doors locked and to keep valuables out of sight or inside the home.
