Crime Report: Police Accuse Woman of Leaving Scene of Accident

responded June 1 to the 39000 block of Joy Road for a report of a traffic accident on private property, according to a police report.

A woman told police she was getting into her vehicle when another vehicle backed out and struck the left side rear of her car, the report said.

The woman told police the driver of the other vehicle refused to stay at the scene and told the woman she was in a hurry because she had to take her daughter to dance. She told police the woman did not provide her name, insurance or registration information, but gave a phone number and said she would go to the Westland Police Department later.

The woman told police she had to write down the other driver’s license plate number to gather information, the report said, and said the other driver left the scene in a hurry, almost hitting another vehicle in the parking lot.

After police called the other driver, she arrived at the station at 11 p.m. and told police she thought both vehicles were backing out at the same time. She told police she was in a hurry because she had to take her daughter to dance.

Officers told the woman she needs to exchange information such as name, address, insurance and registration information. She told police after she dropped her daughter off at dance, she did not have time to come to the police department.

Police cited the woman on charges of failing to stop or identify after an accident.
