Crime Report: Rash of Car Break-ins; Man's Military Equipment Stolen

Larceny from automobile

On July 23 at 12:30 p.m., police met with a victim at the in response to a larceny-from-automobile complaint on Orangelawn Avenue, according to a police report.

The victim told police that sometime between 9 p.m. the day before and 9 a.m. the following morning, someone entered her vehicle and removed a Garmin GPS unit. The vehicle was left unlocked, according to the police report. There was no damage to the vehicle, which was parked in her driveway.

Larceny of military uniforms and gear

On July 22, Plymouth Township police arrived at a residence on Heritage Drive for a report of military bags missing from the storage area of the apartment complex, according to a police report.

The officers met with the victim, who said someone entered the storage area by pulling the door open, according to the police report. The lock was still on the fence door, fully intact, the report said. Missing were three military bags, including two tubular olive-colored duffel bags with all of the man's Navy and Marines uniforms and one parachute bag containing tactical gear and medicine books, according to the police report.

Larceny from automobile

At 12:05 p.m., Plymouth Township police met with a man at the station regarding a larceny-from-vehicle report, according to a police report. The man, who lives at Plymouth Lake Circle, told police he parked his 2002 Ford F-250 in his driveway at 10 p.m. the day before. The following morning he noticed his driver’s side door was ajar and all the change from the center console was missing. No damage to the vehicle was reported, as the vehicle was unlocked at the time, according to the police report. Police have no suspects.

Larceny from automobile

Police were dispatched to Plymouth Ridge on July 22 for a report of a larceny from an automobile, according to a police report.

The victim told police his 2011 Ford Explorer was parked in his driveway at 9 p.m. the day before. At 9 a.m. the next day when he left for work, he noticed someone entered his unlocked vehicle and removed two phone chargers, an iPod and a pair of sunglasses from the center console, according to the police report. Police have no suspects or evidence.

Larceny from residence

Police were dispatched to White Tail Court at 8:45 a.m. on July 22 in response to a larceny complaint. The victim told police a brown umbrella was taken from the rear deck of the residence between 1 p.m. July 20 and 11 p.m. on July 21.

Rash of break-ins at Plymouth Township Park 

Plymouth Township Police officers arrived at at about 5:30 p.m. on July 16 to investigate a string of larcenies from vehicles.

In one case, officers met with a woman from West Bloomfield and her husband in the lower-east parking lot of the park. They were standing next to her husband’s company-owned 2011 Ford Explorer. She told police she and her family arrived at about 4:45 p.m. that day then returned to the Explorer at about 5:40 p.m. and found the passenger-side window had been shattered. The woman’s purse had been stolen from the passenger seat, according to the report. The purse contained a checkbook and a book.

In another case, officers met with a man from Plainfield, IL, who said between 5 p.m. and the time of the call, someone had broken into his 2005 Ford Freestyle and stole his wife’s purse, according to the police report. The suspects broke out the passenger-side front window to gain entry then removed the purse from under the seat. The man's wife told police the car alarm was heard going off at about 5:20 p.m. It was described as a dark blue vinyl purse with three credit and debit cards, a driver’s license and a Social Security card. 

Police also met with a Waterford Township woman who said between 5 p.m. and the time of the call someone had broken into her 2007 Ford Escape and stole two purses. According to the report, the suspects broke out passenger-side rear window of the vehicle to gain entry then removed the purses from the seat. One purse belonged to the woman, the other to her mother. The first purse was vinyl and contained the Waterford Township woman’s checkbook, a video camera, two debit and credit cards, numerous gift cards and cash, according to the report. The woman’s mother’s purse was fabric and contained a checkbook, a Social Security card, a driver’s license, two credit and debit cards, cash and a Samsung cell phone.
