Crime Report: Unruly Woman Faces Theft Charges

responded April 13 to department store, 47250 Michigan Ave., for a report of a woman attempting to steal shoes, according to a police report.

According to the report, store employees reported watching the woman take shoes off a shelf and place them in her purse.

The shoes were valued at about $58, the report said.

The store's loss prevention officers told police they confronted the woman outside the store, where she returned the shoes and walked away, the report said.

Police stopped the woman in the parking lot, the report said, where she was walking barefoot toward Michigan Avenue.

Once handcuffed, the woman told police she was "going to have a coma," the report said. The woman then stiffened up and dropped to the ground and pretended to be unconscious, the report said. Police called for medical assistance from the Canton Fire Department.

Handcuffed to a stretcher, the woman was hospitalized, where she became unruly and verbally abusive while being treated, the report said. According to the report, the woman said if she were to be released to the police department, she would kill herself in jail. She also urinated in her pants and repeatedly hit her head against the wall and stretcher, the report said.

The woman then was placed in restraints by hospital staff, the report said, and while officers held down the woman's right arm, she tried to bite an officer. When told she would be turned over to the police, the report said, the woman became aggressive and tried to free herself from the restraints, pulling out her IVs in the process and drawing blood.

Because of her behavior and condition, police decided to cite and release the woman at the hospital, where a relative was called to pick her up. According to the report, the woman had several warrants from surrounding departments, including a 2006 second-degree retail fraud charge from the . Police cited the woman with third-degree retail fraud.

Woman arrested at Kohl's on theft charges

Canton Township Police responded April 16 to Kohl's department store, 47250 Michigan Avenue, for a report of a woman trying to steal jewelry, according to a police report.

When police responded, three employees were with the woman in the store's loss prevention office. One employee told police the woman was seen taking three items from the jewelry department before heading into the fitting rooms, the report said. An employee found three discarded jewelry packages in the fitting room after the woman left, the report said.

Employees told police the woman then tried to return a skirt and tried to leave the store, the report said, where she was approached by an employee in the parking lot. The woman turned over two bracelets and one necklace totaling about $72, the report said. The woman was cited for third-degree retail fraud.

Bicycles reported missing from garage

Canton Township Police responded April 14 to the 1200 block of Heritage for a report of two bicycles missing from a garage, according to a police report.

Police saw no signs of forced entry, the report said, and the owner of the bikes told police the door usually is locked, but was unsure if it had been locked overnight. According to the report, police saw two bicycle tire impressions in the grass leading to and out of the back gate and into a park that backs up to the victim’s property.

Officers checked the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the bicycles, the report said.
