Crime Report: Woman Arrested on Charges of Shoplifting

responded to , 47250 Michigan Ave., for a report of a woman stealing clothes, according to a police report.

The employee told police two women entered the store together and that he saw one woman select several clothing items, enter the dressing room, and then exit the dressing room with a stuffed purse and no merchandise in hand, the report said. He told police he couldn’t find any of the items inside the dressing room, either. He told police he saw the woman empty a black purse full of items into the back of a red Chevrolet Impala before entering Claire’s.

Police pursued one of the women on foot when she left Claire's, catching up with her inside at garage at the 4600 block of Pond Run, the report said, where she was apprehended by police.

The woman was uncooperative with police and began banging her head on the concrete floor of the garage, the report said, and told police she had trouble breathing and was pregnant. She was taken to by the , the report said.

Police searched the woman’s car and located stolen items from Kohl’s and , including $281.94 worth of Kohl’s merchandise, $136.52 worth of Old Navy merchandise and four fashion accessories from Claire’s totaling $30.

The woman had an infant child with her during the incident, the report said. According to the report, the woman set the child down before fleeing the officer. When reached by phone, the child’s mother told police the woman was babysitting her son.

Police arrested the woman on charges of second-degree retail fraud, the report said.
