No injuries reported in blaze, while cause still unknown

About 30 firefighters helped extinguish a garage fire Saturday afternoon at the 100 block of Garling Street in Plymouth, according to a news release from the city.

According to the release, crews responded at about 2:19 p.m. to see a garage with extensive black smoke billowing from the building and flames on the outside of the structure. Crews began battling the blaze, during which propane tanks stored inside the garage began exploding, the release said, and were able to get it under control by 2:47 p.m.

The garage and two vehicles inside were reported a total loss, the release said.

Fire investigators still were reviewing the scene to determine a cause of the fire over the weekend, the release said. A total damage estimate also was not yet available.

Houses adjacent to the garage suffered smoke and heat damage and a dog was rescued from the fire, the release said.
