Former Meijer Employee Faces Embezzlement Charges

Police: Employee attempted to steal a Nintendo 3DS.

An employee attempted to steal a Nintendo 3DS from the Canton Meijer on Ford Road on April 13, according to a police report. 

Meijer Loss Prevention told police that the employee worked in the store receiving, unloading merchandise in the warehouse area, and that other employees had seen him placing an item in the cargo pocket of his pants, the report said. 

Loss Prevention discovered an empty Nintendo 3DS box sitting in an almost completely empty trash can in the bathroom, according to the report.

The employee admitted he placed the electronic game outside of the Meijer building in the team member smoking area, and that he took it because he is from a poor family, the report said. 

The item is valued at $199.99 and was recovered by the store.

The employee has been terminated from Meijer and advised not to return to the store. Meijer will also seek prosecution for embezzlement, the report said.
