4 Canton Children Injured in Pittsfield Township Crash

Two of the children are listed in critical condition.

A rescue helicopter transported an 11-year-old Canton girl to the University of Michigan Hospital and five others were injured in a vehicle crash around 6:30 p.m. Sunday on Merritt Road, west of Munger Road in Pittsfield Township, police said.

A 23-year-old Ypsilanti Township man male was driving east bound on Merritt Road when he lost control, left the roadway, hit two trees and landed in the ditch, according to a press release form the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety.

The driver and all five passengers were transported to an area hospital. The driver was listed in critical condition, according to police. The front seat passenger, a 27-year-old Ypsilanti Township resident had serious injuries, according to the police report.

The other four passengers in the vehicle were children, three males and one female, all from Canton. Two of the children, an 11-year-old female and a 7-year-old boy, are listed in critical condition, according to police. The others were listed in stable condition.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor.

The 11 year old was transported to the hospital by U of M Survival Flight. The
Pittsfield Township Police Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the crash.
