Man Claiming He Sent Child Porn Texts by Mistake Faces 7 Years

Joel Donald Dummann said he was "remorseful" about the texts message containing images of nude children in sexual positions, which authorities used to search his Wayne County home.

A Wayne County man who admitted to “sexting” nude images of children in sexual positions to a Canton man by mistake will be sentenced in April on charges punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Joel Donald Dummann, 44, said he was “remorseful” Friday when he pleaded guilty to one of three counts that he used a computer to commit a crime and one of three counts of possession of child sexually abusive materials, the Observer & Eccentric reports.

Dummann has been in jail on $250,000 bond since his arested in mid-December based on information the Canton man who had received the text messages provided to police.

Canton Dective Sgt. Baugh said authorities used the lewd texts to obtain a warrant to search of Dummann’s home.

When he was arraigned in 35th District Court in December, Dummann reportedly said he was remorseful and wiling to face the charges against him.

The plea agreement means the mistaken recipient of the texts won’t have to testify, though the was “more than willing” to do so, Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Meghan Mathews said in court.

Dumman’s will be sentenced April 2 by Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Callahan.
