Plymouth High School Lacrosse Coach Charged with Child Porn Possession, Distribution

Stephen Jay Nyquist of Canton will be arraigned Thursday at the 35th District Court in Plymouth.

Stephen Jay Nyquist, 65, a girls lacrosse coach and Canton resident, was charged Wednesday with possession and distribution of child sexually abusive material and will be arraigned Thursday at the in Plymouth.

According to a press release from the office of Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Nyquist has been charged with six counts of Using a Computer to Communicate with Another to Commit a Crime, three counts of Distribution of Child Sexually Abusive Material and three counts of Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material.

Also according to the press release, Nyquist engaged in the alleged crimes between Jan. 30 and March of this year while using the computer at his home on the 1500 block 0f Hampshire Drive in Canton.

Nyquist served as head coach of the Plymouth-Canton-Salem United girls lacrosse team last year. This is the first year the three schools will have independent girls lacrosse teams and Nyquist was expected to be head coach of Plymouth's team.

According to the school district's website, the team was scheduled to begin practice this week. Its first game is scheduled for March 23 at Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools are not currently releasing any comment on Nyquist, his charges or future plans for the team.

Nyquist will be arraigned at 10 a.m. Thursday.
