Plymouth Police: No Charges Will Be Filed in Bomb Scare

Owner of suspicious device tells police a bomb prop found last week was a discarded piece from a Halloween costume.

No charges will be filed in an Aug. 16 bomb scare at Daisy Square Condominiums in Plymouth, Plymouth Police Det. Lt. Jamie Grabowski said today in a news release.

Grabowski said that on Aug. 16, Plymouth Police and other emergency personnel responded to the condominiums, 101 S. Union St., for a suspicious package found in a dumpster. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad rendered the item safe and turned it over to local police.

According to Grabowski, the item was revealed to be a homemade prop purchased by a Plymouth resident in 2011 as part of a Halloween costume. The owner of the item threw the prop away on Aug. 16, Grabowski said, after cleaning out his garage.

Grabowski said no charges will be filed and the case has been closed. He said residents who create such props should properly dispose of the items by dismantling them to prevent similar emergency responses.
