Plymouth Police Warn of Scam Via Fax

Scam sent via fax machine seeks money from recipients.

Plymouth City Police are warning of a scam sent via fax machine that seeks money from recipients of the message.

A subject named Jumai Abdullah, according to a news release from the department, says he is from Libya and a member of the former government of the late Muammar Gadhafi.

The person writes in the fax that he is able to secure $52 million and requires assistance in getting the money from a bank in Luxemburg. The person who assists, the man writes, is allowed to keep 30 percent after wiring the remainind balance to an undisclosed location.

"Residents are reminded to dismiss and ignore these types of propositions from individuals or organizations that they may receive via fax, email or over the phone," Plymouth Police Det. Lt. Jamie Grabowski said in a news release.

If residents are in doubt about any proposals they receive they are encouraged to contact their local police department for guidance, Grabowski said in the news release.
