Plymouth Township Fire Receives More Than $8,000 in Equipment Donations

Plymouth Township's Honeywell Turbo Technologies presented the department with Honeywell brand personal safety equipment, manufactured specifically for firefighters' needs.

The Plymouth Community Fire Department received a much appreciated donation of top-of-the-line personal safety equipment on Wednesday afternoon.

Honeywell, a technology and manufacturing leader with a location in Plymouth Township, presented more than $8,000 worth of high-performance Honeywell Eclipse gloves and Honeywell Pro Series boots, which are engineered and manufactured to respond to firefighters’ unique needs and challenging environments.

Plymouth Township Fire Chief Mark Wendel said the donation is enough to equip all of the department's full-time staff.

Wendel said the department's previous equipment was serviceable, but the donated boots and gloves are newer and of a higher quality.

"For example, the boots that most the firefighters wear are more of a rubber style boot," he said. "With the (Honeywell) leather boot, it gives you a little more flexibility and the grip style is different. It's just a little more stable, more durable type boot."

Wendel assured Plymouth Township residents that the department is there for them, and with the new equipment, will be able to provide the same high level of service it has always provided.

The donation was made as part of Honeywell’s Hometown Solutions community grant program, the company’s corporate citizenship initiative.

Plymouth Township Supervisor Richard Reaume and U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio joined Wendel and Honeywell Vice President of the Americas Tony Schultz during the presentation at Fire Station 1 on Wednesday.

“Honeywell wants to be known as a good corporate citizen and we feel that responsibility in the communities where we work and live," Schultz said. "Fire departments do heroic work every day and we are proud to lend our support.”

“The new equipment is very much appreciated and will be put to good use protecting the residents of Plymouth Township,” Reaume said. “On behalf of the township, I want to thank Honeywell for its support of our community.”
