Plymouth Township Home Sustains Heavy Damage in Fire

No injuries reported in fire.

A Plymouth Township family was displaced from its home Monday night after a fire caused significant damage to a house at Essex Court and Wendover Court.

Plymouth Township Fire Chief Mark Wendel said no injuries were reported in the blaze, which started before 7 p.m.

Wendel said upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the house and found everyone inside the house had been evacuated safely, so the crews started to attack the fire.

Wendel said the fire caused major damage throughout the home, particularly in the basement area.

"We have very substantial damage on the lower level of the house and the basement area," Wendel said. "That's pretty much 100 percent damaged down there."

Wendel said the rest of the house sustained smoke damage. Nearby properties did not sustain any noticeable damage from the fire and smoke, he said.

He said the township firefighters received mutual aid from the Northville-Plymouth department and Northville Township.

Wendel said late Monday that the cause of the fire has not yet been investigated. While the fire displaced the family from its home, its accomodations were not known late Monday.
