Police Blotter: Speedway Customer Receives Counterfeit Bill as Change

The man, 21, turned in a fake $5 bill to the Plymouth Township Police Department on Saturday.

A customer at the Speedway gas station on Sheldon Road in Plymouth Township received a counterfeit $5 bill as change on Saturday, according to .

The 21-year-old customer brought the suspected fake bill to the police station, where an officer confirmed that it was counterfeit based on a number of signs, including purple ink inside the oval around President Abraham Lincoln's head and Lincoln's face missing from the right side of the bill.

The police took the bill as evidence, but the origins of the counterfeit remain unknown.

Police recover beer stolen from Kroger

Plymouth Township Police were called to the store on Ann Arbor Road on Friday in response to an in-process theft of a case of Budweiser.

Kroger employees called 911 dispatch after seeing a man wearing all black and a blue baseball cap walk out of the store's main entrance with the case of beer.

Another witness, waiting in the parking lot near Kroger to pick up his wife from her shift at work, followed the suspect in his minivan after seeing two Kroger employees yelling at the man to stop. The two employees and the man's wife drove behind the suspect, who was on foot, westbound on Ann Arbor Road to Baywood.

When the witnesses told the suspect the police were on their way, he dropped the case of beer and took off running. When police arrived, the man was out of sight.

According to the police report, the police returned the beer to the store. Kroger managers were advised to review the tape on their security cameras to identify the suspect, who is no longer welcome in the store. Police also told management that if they saw the suspect, they should contact the police department to report trespassing.
