Police Blotter: Vandals Strike Railroad Signal Box

The following arrest information was supplied by the Plymouth Township police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Railroad signal box damaged by vandals

At 7:18 p.m. on June 24, police were dispatched to the railroad tracks between Haggerty and Northville Road in response to a utility shed and computer equipment that had been vandalized, according to a police report.

Upon arrival, police met with railroad employees who told police that at about 5:50 p.m., the utility shed that houses all the electronics to control the engines had been broken into and damage was done to several relays and communications boards, with an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Police observed two damaged computer boards between the tracks and several relays that were punched out, according to the report.

The employees told police that while surveying the damage, three men and a woman came up on the tracks from the Gunsolly Mills area by the Rouge River.

They told police one man was wearing a gray hoodie, a second was wearing a red shirt and had a backpack and they could not provide any description on the third man.

The employees told police the woman was wearing a blue sweatshirt and denim jeans. The employees told police that the people began walking along the tracks toward the shed. Once they realized CSX railroad employees were present, they all fled back down the hill. 

Attempted vehicle theft

At a little past 11 a.m. on June 24, police were dispatched to Postiff Avenue in reference to an attempted car theft.

When police arrived, a woman said she walked up to her dark blue Dodge Caravan at 11 a.m. and noticed her driver-side door had been pried open near the window. She told police the last time she saw the vehicle without damage was about 5 p.m. on June 23. She told police no items were stolen from vehicle.

The officers noticed the top and side of the driver side door had been pried open, according to the police report. They also noticed the steering column had been broken and the ignition had been dismantled.
