Police Looking for Man Who Asked Girl to Unbutton Pants in Hines Park

The incident occurred Friday around 5:30 p.m.

A female teen was approached by an unkown man in Hines Park in Northville on Friday evening, who asked her to unbutton and pull down her pants to avoid getting in trouble.

The incident occurred in the playground area near Seven Mile Road and Hines Drive at about 5:30 p.m.

According to a city of Northville police department alert: the girl was with a male teen when they were approached by the man. He was carrying a hand-held radio, similar to a walkie-talkie, and told them they were in trouble. The man asked for their identification. He then told the male teen to leave and led the girl to a wooded area.

She was able to run away. City police chief Gary Goss said he sees this incident as an attempted CSC, or criminal sexual conduct.

"She was smart," he said of the female teen who got away. "She saw an opportunity and ran."

Once she took off running, the man did not pursue her, he said.

The man did not identify himself as a police officer but attempted to look official with his walkie talkie. Goss advises people to get identification from anyone in a situation like this who is approached by someone who tries to appear in a position of authority.

"Any police officer will show you his ID and give his name," he said.

The police department has released a sketch of the man. According to the alert, the man was wearing a red polo shirt, black or tan shorts. He is described as being between the ages of 40-50. He is said to be between 5-feet-7 inches and 5-feet-11 inches tall. He is of average weight and has brown and gray hair in a comb-over style.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Northville Police at 248 349-1234.
