Police Respond to 911 Hangup; Find Canton Woman Overdosed on Sleeping Pills

Police say the woman told her husband she took a number of pills, then went into the bedroom.

On Oct. 19, police responded to an apartment on Edinburgh Drive after a woman called 911 saying she needed help, then hung up the phone, according to a police report. 

Police interviewed a 53-year-old Canton man who said his wife was in bed sleeping. He allowed police inside the apartment to check on her, the report said.  

Police found the 39-year-old woman in bed, nearly unresponsive. The man told police that nearly 45 minutes before, she told him she had taken 8 to 10 sleeping pills, then went into the bedroom, the report said.

The Canton Fire Department was called to the scene to check on the woman and determined she may have overdosed on sleeping pills. She told firefighters that she had taken the pills in an attempt to harm herself, the report said. 

The man told police the woman had been depressed lately over family troubles. She was transported to St. Mary's hospital by the fire department," the report said.
