Purses and Credit Cards Stolen from Cars at Lower Rouge Trail

Police are seeking help identifying a woman they believe to have stolen the credit cards

The Canton Police Department is seeking help identifying a suspect believed to be involved in the breaking and entering of cars at the Lower Rouge Trail Park over the past several weeks.

Car windows are smashed and women's purses taken from inside the cars while the owners are using the recreational area, police said.

There have been three total incidents, according to Sgt. Chad Baugh. On Aug. 15, the car windows were smashed and a purse and credit cards were stolen. On Aug. 25, the purse was stolen, and on Sept. 7, the windows were smashed while the woman's purse and credit card was stolen.

Baugh said the credit card from the Sept. 7 incident was used at Walmart. Police were able to get surveillance photos of the suspect. One of the photographs shows the vehicle she left the store in.

Any person with information regarding the identity of the woman or vehicle’s owner is encouraged to contact the Canton Police Department at 734-394-5400.

Baugh is asking residents to be aware of the situation.

"They're using the park for recreation and we want them to be able to go there without any problems," he said. "One of the ways to avoid the problem is to keep personal items out of, what we consider in the police department, is plain view. So maybe leave some  of the items at home or hide them very well so the access to them is  not so easy."
