Shoplifting Incidents Reported at Walmart on Michigan Ave.

Canton Township Police responded Oct. 29 to Walmart, 45555 Michigan Ave., for a report of two suspects leaving the store in a red Envoy after an apparent shoplifting incident, according to a police report.
Two officers stopped the vehicle at a gas station at Michigan Avenue and Haggerty while the officer at Walmart spoke with employees. The store’s loss prevention officer told police she saw a group walk into the store and observed one man select an Otter Box iPhone case from a shelf and hand it to another man in a hoodie, who concealed it in his pocket, the report said.
The employee told police the men left the store and were joined by two acquaintances who had been standing in the checkout line. She told police the group entered the Envoy and she saw the man with the hoodie hand the iPhone case to his friend in the front passenger seat, the report said.

Police recovered the phone case from the man and returned the item and its packaging to the store, the report said. Walmart employees told police they wish to prosecute, the report said.
Couple accused of taking items from Walmart

Store employees notified police that loss prevention officers had two suspects in the store’s custody accused of taking a shower curtain and a pair of leggings totaling $17.43. The couple’s children also were at the store, the report said.
When asked by police what was going on, one of the suspects told the officer “I don’t have to explain myself to you,” then said she was “in a hurry to get some things for my kid” and took the two items.
The other suspect told police he told the woman to put the items back, but admitted he knew she had the items in her bag, the report said.
Police arranged for a friend to pick up the couple’s children from the store and both the man and woman were arrested on charges of third-degree retail fraud, the report said.
