The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Canton Township Police arrested a woman on robbery charges after police say she attempted to steal several items and then lost her shirt in a scuffle with store security.

The responding officer, who was parked in the parking lot, was alerted by a motorist that there was a fight going on in the Walmart lobby around 6 p.m. Sept. 16 at Walmart, 45555 Michigan Ave., according to a police report. The officer said he then noticed a female who was topless running from the store doors, according to the report.

One loss prevention agent said she tried to stop the woman who pushed her and lost her shirt in the struggle, according to the report.

She stopped when the officer activated his vehicle siren, and he handcuffed her and put her in the police car, the report said. Walmart loss prevention agents confirmed she was the woman involved in the incident, the report said.

The woman had previous larceny charges, and the items she was charged with stealing include a video, clothing and InnoTab learning tablets and software, the report said.

Man Arrested on OWI, Possession of Controlled Substance Charges

Canton Township Police arrested a man on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and possession of a controlled substance at 5:37 a.m. Sept. 16 near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and South Canton Center Road, according to a police report.

The responding officers observed a yellow GMC truck traveling northbound on Beck Road fail to stop at a stop sign at Michigan Avenue before heading eastbound on Michigan Avenue, the report said. The officers stopped the driver at Michigan Avenue and Canton Center Road.

The officer said he could smell intoxicants coming from the vehicle when he stopped to talk to the driver and noticed that the driver’s eyes were glossy and blood shot, according to the report. There was also a cup in the center console, which the driver said possibly had alcohol in it, the report said.

The officer conducted a sobriety test including the one-leg stand, which the man was unable to perform correctly, the report said. The officer searched him, finding a Clonazepam pill folded in a dollar bill in the driver’s pocket, according to the report. The man said he had a prescription, but could not provide it. He was arrested and given a court date for Oct. 3 at 35th District Court.

Loss prevention entails anything preventing loss from a store, including employee theft. I think security implies safety enforcement. I've worked retail jobs in the past and it was always called loss prevention.

I have worked in retail security over twenty years and we have always been referred to as: Loss Prevention Agents.
