Westland Man Arrested in Second Drunk Driving Offense

Police said the man's car was impounded and his license plate was confiscated.

A 27-year-old Westland man was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) on July 15, according to a police report. 

Police said they saw the man's car swerve into the center turn lane then swerve into the right through lane before correcting itself back into the left through lane while traveling eastbound on Ford Road near I-275. The man was also traveling 55 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone, the report said. 

Police pulled the man over in the Home Depot parking lot, the report said.

The driver smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and watery and blood shot eyes, according to the police report.  

The man told police that he was on his way home after having one drinkSaid he was on way home, only had one drink, the report said.

The man failed several field sobriety tests, but told police that he was really nervous, the report said. 

The man consented to a breathalyzer and blew a .167 blood alcohol content (BAC), according to the report.

The man was arrested on OWI charges. Since it was his second offense, police confiscated his metal license plate to be destroyed. The man's car was impounded, the report said.
