Canton Approves Mandir Temple Expansion

The B.A.P.S. Mandir Temple approached the Canton Township Planning Commission at the beginning of the month to consider a special land use request and site plan for expansion. 

"Our main purpose is increase of space," said Mukesh Patel, who represented the B.A.P.S. Mandir Temple, 3175 South Canton Center Road.

At Tuesday evening's meeting, the Canton Township Board of Trustees approved the request. The plan includes adding 15,950 square feet to build more classrooms, add a larger dining area and provide a separate Mandir or temple.

Also, a part of the Mandir Temple's request is to allow for the construction of taller spires than what regulation allows. Patel said there is religious significance in the location and height of the spires. 

Canton Friendship Church Compromises with Neighbors

Canton Friendship Church approached the Canton Township Planning Commission earlier this month to consider a special land use request for its residential property and site plan approval for the addition of a garage.

The Board of Trustees approved the request, which included a modification in the new site plan to include a vinyl fence to provide privacy to the neighbor, Timothy Zapinski of 47304 Saltz Road, who lives adjacent to the Church's residential property.

The site plan also includes the addition of evergreen trees to accommodate the requests for privacy from neighbor Jennifer Marsman of 125 Hendrie, whose home is in sight of the prospective garage.

Other Items

• The Board of Trustees approved the Singh Executive Park's request for rezoning of its 6.25 acre parcel from a commercial district (C-3) to a light industrial research district (L-IR).
• Canton Police Lt. Todd Mutchler will become Canton’s new public safety director starting Jan. 1. He is replacing retiring Public Safety Director Pat Nemecek.
