Canton Man Faces Criminal Sexual Conduct Charges

Robert Carl Kahler, accused of molesting a friend's child, faces charges with penalties of up to life in prison.

A Canton resident, Robert Carl Kahler, 56, faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct during a 35th District Court arraignment, according a statement released by . Both charges Both related to alleged inappropriate contact with the child of a family friend.

He is being held in Wayne County Jail on a $150,000 cash bond, set by 35th District Court Judge James A. Plakas at an arraignment on Monday, according to county records.

The charges include one count each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to life imprisonment and second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The case has been turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office; Canton Police indicated they will release no further details.

Kahler is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary exam on Nov. 7.
