Eric Kolke, a 17-year Canton police officer, joined Rep. Kurt Heise in an annual ceremony honoring first responders and Michigan residents killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Canton Police Officer of the Year Eric Kolke was invited by State Rep. Kurt Heise (R-Plymouth) to attend the Michigan House of Representatives' annual ceremony honoring first responders and Michigan residents killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony also honored first responders and members of the military who lost their lives in the line of duty during the last year.

“It is an honor to have Canton Police Officer Eric Kolke join me on the House floor on a day where we are paying tribute to those who serve and protect our communities and citizens,” Heise said in a news release. “This ceremony is to remember those killed 12 years ago, and to honor our first responders and our military men and women who defend us each day.”
