Court Blotter: Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Breaking and Entering and Retail Fraud

A summary of court cases in the 35th District Court from June 23, 2011 – June 29, 2011, covering Plymouth, Canton and Northville.

The following items are updates on cases in the 35th District Court, which serves Plymouth, Canton and Northville. Not all items, unless otherwise noted, reflect guilty pleas or convictions.

Mike James Johnson, 42, Canton

  • Admitted responsibility for a civil offense of violating an animal ordinance
  • Sentenced to court costs and an ordinance fine of $140

Caleb Marvin-Lee Rankins, 19, Canton

  • Violated probation on his original charge of possession of marijuana
  • The court referred his case to the probation department to determine further sentencing issues

Jason Edward Schomberger, 29, Plymouth

  • Ordered to appear before the court for a show cause hearing on a trespassing charge, where he would have to show that he was not in contempt of court
  • Waived his preliminary exam on April 8, 2011, and entered a not guilty plea
  • Bound over for trial

 

John Patrick McCormick, 18, Novi

  • Pleaded not guilty to violation of the public health code for possession of marijuana
  • Scheduled for pretrial

 

Carrie Ann Stiltner, 55, Plymouth

  • Arraigned on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, felony assault
  • Waived her preliminary exam, where the court would explain the charges against her
  • Pleaded not guilty on June 24, 2011
  • Bound over for trial

 

Jeffrey Thomas Gabel, 45, Brighton

  • Charged with breaking and entering/illegal entry
  • Pleaded not guilty on May 18, 2011
  • A warrant was issued for failing to appear at his court date on June 13, 2011
  • Appeared in court and charges were dismissed against him

 

Adam Scott Zuchora, 37, Novi

  • Arraigned on a charge of third-degree retail fraud
  • Pleaded guilty on June 27, 2011
  • Sentenced by the court to 6 months non-reporting probation and a total fine of $628
