Faces at the Polls: Sherry Sweeney and Chassidy Jamnick of Canton

Marine mom, daughter vote together at Summit on the Park in Canton.

Sherry Sweeney and her daughter, Chassidy Jamnick, both of Canton, waited two hours in line Tuesday to vote at Tyler Elementary in Belleville before realizing they had the wrong polling location.

To the relief of the mother-daughter duo, voting together Tuesday as they do every four years, lines weren't nearly as long at their correct polling place, Summit on the Park in Canton.

Sweeney and Jamnick said they both were cautiously supporting President Barack Obama in this year's election.

The mother and daughter said while they didn't necessarily support Obamacare, they also did not support Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's plans for Medicare.

Sweeney, whose son is a Marine, said she supported Obama's pledge to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Iraq.

"My baby brother is a Marine and we want him home," Jamnick said. "I think Obama needs another four years."

Also weighing heavily on the mother and daughter's minds were this year's state ballot proposals.

Both said they opposed the green-energy initiatives proposed in Proposal 3, saying if passed, it will raise energy costs for Michigan residents.

The pair also shared an endorsement of Proposal 6, requiring a statewide vote for future international bridge plans.

"We want to have a say," Sweeney said.
