2. Canton's board of trustees meets at 7 p.m. today to discuss a multitude of issues, including whether to transfer general fund money into accounts for public improvement and the golf course. The trustees are required by law to cover deficits, in this case from the failure of a land-contract lease leaving a $302,917 negative balance and the golf fund's $253,328 deficit.

3. If you want to influence state government: Two state committees need volunteers: Natural Resources and Occupational Licensing. Applications are due July 1 for Natural Resources and Occupational Licensing Committee Member.

4.  participates in the Michigan DNR Park and Read program which allows library cardholders to check out a one-day pass for any Michigan state park or recreation area — which saves you the $6 park entry fee.
