Heise Sworn In at Plymouth Township Meeting Tuesday

20th District State Rep. Kurt Heise was joined by family and supporters to take the oath of office, and discussed a short list of efforts he'll work on this year.

On Tuesday night, 20th District Republican State Rep. Kurt Heise was sworn into office by 35th  District Court Judge Ronald Lowe at ’s Board of Trustees meeting.

thanked his supporters at the meeting, and said he’s already introduced the first bill of the new year, House Bill 4001, to repeal the Michigan Business Tax surcharge.

“This was a high priority during my campaign, as it is also for Gov. Rick Snyder,” Heise said after the ceremony.

He said he plans to keep moving forward to face the state’s challenges, including creating an authority to take over the Detroit Water system, a 90-day permitting requirement for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, legislation to eliminate township annexations and changes to school board election requirements.

“We’ve got a lot going on already,” Heise said.

Resident Carol Grimmer said that Heise’s drive for improvement is exactly what the township needs.

“He’s got a lot of great ideas, and he understands the economic challenges we face. It’s great that we have him in Lansing,” she said Tuesday.

Cathrine Heise, Kurt’s wife, said that she’s thrilled that he is working to make a difference for the region.

“He’s got many years of municipal and county government experience, and a vision that coincides with the governor. They’re on the same page. We need them to get Michigan back on track,” she said.
