House Backs Interstate 275/Ford Road Plan

State House calls on U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund project.

Canton found another ally in its bid to receive funding to fix the Interstate 275/Ford Road interchange: The Michigan House.

House members voted Tuesday to call on the U.S. Department of Transportation to approve funding for the project, the Canton Observer reported.

According to the report, the vote comes just after Canton Township and the Michigan Department of Transportation submitted an $18 million grant proposal to federal officials to overhaul the congested thoroughfare.

The overhaul could help reduce accidents, the report said.

“We now have support of the full Michigan Legislature,” Canton Township Supervisor Phil LaJoy told the Observer.

Township officials also continue to push for a for the funds. Its website, www.tiger4canton.com, is focused on finding ways to lobby federal officials to approve the grant, the report said.
