In Brief: Dan Johnson Joins Plymouth DDA Board, City Saves Money on Grass Cutting

The Plymouth City Commission approved these things and more at its meeting Monday evening.

Dan Johnson joins DDA board

Dan Johnson, owner of the in downtown Plymouth, has joined the city's Downtown Development Authority board. He is taking the place of Plymouth resident Kelly Karadsheh, who has resigned due to a conflict in schedule.

Johnson said he has been wanting to join the board to be more involved in the Plymouth community.

"It's a great city, and I just want to be more of a part of it," Johnson said.

He will serve through the remainder of Karadsheh's term, which expires at the end of 2012.

City saves money on grass-cutting service

The Plymouth City Commission approved a bid from a new company to administer all grass cutting and fall leaf cleanup for the next three years.

By accepting the bid from Executive Property Maintenance in Plymouth, the city will save $35,000 per year.

"With the current economic climate, we've been driven to look at all our contracts more closely," said Chris Porman, assistant director of municipal services for the city. "We realized it had been a few years since we'd accepted any bids for grass cutting, and the market drove the numbers."

The city previously used R. Melow Landscaping.

Plymouth City Hall to hold passport day

The city of Plymouth will hold a special passport day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 9 at in the clerk's office. Officials will provide passport information to U.S. citizens and will accept passport applications.

The city is teaming up with the U.S. Department of State to celebrate Passport Day in the USA 2011.

"We had a great turnout last year," said City Clerk Linda Langmesser.
