In Brief: Michigan Senate GOP to Change Boundaries of 7th District

Redistricting would cut some of 7th district to absorb Livonia while keeping part of Northville city, Northville township, Plymouth city and township and Canton.

The Michigan state senate has announced plans today for redistricting that would affect the 7th district, which serves Northville, Plymouth and Canton.

According to the website of State Sen. Patrick Colbeck (R-Canton) from the 7th district, his district also currently serves other Wayne County towns including Belleville city, Brownstown Township, Flat Rock city, Gibraltar city, Grosse Ile Township, Huron Township, Rockwood city, Sumpter Township, Trenton city, Van Buren Township and Woodhaven city.

The redistricting plan would change the 7th district to the following, according to an article in The Detroit News: part of the city of Northville, Northville Township, Plymouth city and township, Canton Township, Wayne and Livonia.

The GOP currently holds the majority in the state senate and house. The plan overall would push districts entirely or mostly in Detroit further into Wayne County's suburbs.

Calls and emails to Sen. Colbeck's office were not returned by the time of publication.
