The President said no Americans were harmed in the mission to capture bin Laden and the ensuring firefight. He said no womean or children were hurt in the attack on the compound. He also said the United States is not, and never has been, at war with Islam, but rather with bin Laden, a mastermind of the Sept. 11 attack on this country and a mass murderer.

Obama said bin Laden's death is the "most signficant achievement to date" in the fight against terrorism.

He concluded his speech with words to those who lost loved ones during Sept. 11.

"We have never forgotten your loss," he said, adding that the country remains committed to making the world a safer place, "not because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
