Detroit Free Press story indicates multiple assaults on one child by a classmate at Discovery Middle School

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools' officials have released a brief "no comment" response to the announcement of a lawsuit filed by the mother of a Discovery Middle School student.

The lawsuit alleges that the student, a girl with Down Syndrome, was sexually assaulted multiple times by a classmate, according to a Detroit Free Press story. The suit asks for in excess of $150,000 in damages.

The district's statement, released via email to the media, in total: "As of noon on Wed., Nov. 9, 2011, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools has not been formally served with a lawsuit.  We are aware of the situation, and have contacted our legal counsel. We are cognizant of state and federal laws that protect our students' rights.  Accordingly, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
