Judge Drops 2 of 3 Charges Against Schepansky

Plymouth High School teacher faced three gun-related charges.

In ordering a Wayne County Circuit Court hearing for , 35th District Court Chief Justice Michael Gerou said he would drop two of three charges against the Plymouth High School military history teacher.

Gerou delivered the order Tuesday during a preliminary hearing, which determines whether a felony case will go to circuit court.

Schepansky now faces one count of carrying a concealed weapon, which could result in a sentence of up to five years in prison. The two charges dropped were possession of a weapon on school property (a weapon-free zone), which carried a possible five  years in prison, and felony firearm, a possible two-year sentence.

Gerou declined to reinstate a charge of carrying a firearm with unlawful intent. That charge was dropped at Schepansky's arraignment last month at 34th District Court.

Schepansky was arrested April 14 while driving toward Plymouth High School on the driveway from Beck Road. He had been told to take that day off after co-workers reported he had been behaving in an angry manner on April 13 and made threatening remarks against school officials.

Schepansky is on paid leave from Plymouth-Canton Community Schools until the case is resolved. School officials said they will not comment .
