Price of Stamps Going Up in 2014

The increase is supposed to generate an additional $1.8 billion in revenue to make up for earlier losses.

If you're someone who uses a lot of stamps, you'll want to start stocking up on Forever stamps before prices rise.

On Jan. 26 the cost of a first-class postage stamp will rise to $.49 from $.46, according to the Untied States Postal Service.

Highlights of the new single-piece First-Class Mail pricing include:

  • Letters (1 oz.) — 3-cent increase to 49 cents
  • Letters additional ounces —  1-cent increase to 21 cents
  • Letters to all international destinations (1 oz.) — $1.15
  • Postcards — 1-cent increase to 34 cents

Stamp prices have stayed consistent with the average annual rate of inflation of 4.2 percent since the Postal Service was formed in 1971, according to usps.com.
