Shannon Price, James Amar Win Wayne County Commission Primaries

Price routs Rick Convertino in GOP primary, while Amar edges Matthew Fiems in Democratic race.

Shannon Price and James Amar will face off in November in the race for a commissioner seat in Wayne County's 10th district.

Price, of Canton, routed Republican primary rival Rick Convertino on Tuesday, earning 69 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. Amar, of Plymouth Township, saw a closer race, edging Democratic foe Matthew Fiems with 52 percent of the vote. 

"I think the hard work paid off," Price said Tuesday while at a candidate gathering at the residence of Canton Township Trustee . "Between my family and friends and all the volunteers, it was a big team effort and it paid off."

Price said he felt his campaign's message of "restoring honesty, integrity and accountability to the commission" resonated with voters.

Amar said he hopes to carry the momentum from his primary victory to the general election in November.

"I was happy with the outcome, obviously," Amar said Wednesday. "I was glad I could win. I look forward to going on to the general."

Facing Price in November, Amar said he faces a "formidable" opponent.

"I look forward to a good challenge and a lot of work," Amar said.

Price finished with 3,261 votes to Convertino's 1,451, while Amar earned 1,138 votes to Fiems' 1,062.
