State Erroneously Suspends Canton Physician's License

In a case of mistaken identity, state determines Fatima Hassan of Canton was not convicted of any crime, was mistaken for someone with same name.

A suspension handed down by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) against Fatima Hassan of Canton was determined to be issued in error in a case of mistaken identity and has been withdrawn, according to a news release from LARA. The news release reads:

On Sept. 10, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs issued an Order of Summary Suspension and an Administrative Complaint against Fatima Bint E. Hassan, M.D., based on Dr. Hassan's alleged felony conviction of Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, in May 2012.

On Sept. 21, upon further investigation, it was determined that Dr. Hassan, of Canton, was not convicted of the aforementioned felony conviction, or any conviction. Therefore, the Order of Summary Suspension and the Administrative Complaint issued by LARA in error have been withdrawn.

Consequently, on Sept. 21, an Order Dissolving Summary Suspension and Order Allowing Withdrawal was issued by an administrative law judge, which immediately reinstated Dr. Hassan's medical license.

LARA has confirmed that the Fatima Hassan referenced in the Federal circuit court conspiracy conviction is not licensed as a health professional in the State of Michigan. Unfortunately, this individual has the same first and last name as Dr. Hassan.
