Updated: Thaddeus McCotter Declares Presidential Aim

After weeks of rumors, the 11th Congressional District Republican confirms his plans to run for president.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Livonia, has a brand-new campaign website, one more step in his bid for the White House. The site, www.McCotter2012.com, went live this week but simply stated "hmm..." until early Friday morning, when it was updated with a photo of the newest candidate and a series of statements. McCotter has positioned his budding campaign with a statement making God and business his priorities.

On Thursday, David Shepardson, reported for the Detroit News' Washington Bureau, that McCotter will file papers to make his predential campaign bid official and pave the way for transferring existing campaign funds.

McCotter's website declares five campaign points: that liberty comes from God, not the government; "sovereignty is in our souls not the soil;" security is from strength, not surrender; prosperity from the private, not public, sector; and truths as self-evident, not relative. The site also claims the American Dream is endangered and urges readers to "seize freedom."

His existing campaign site, www.mccotterrocks.com remains active but does not indicate any presidential drive.

McCotter, a four-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives, told the online news site Politico in May that he was seriously considering making a bid for the presidency.
