Editor's note: This is the first in a five-part series highlighting five of the top stories around Plymouth and Canton in 2012.
Families in the Plymouth-Canton school district saw drastic changes when the 2012-13 school year began.
In March, the Plymouth-Canton school board voted to close Fiegel Elementary—a longtime hot-button issue in the district—and in April approved additional plans amid a district-wide restructuring to best utilize the district's buildings.
Gallimore Elementary, which also was up for closure after a recommendation by administrators, was saved by a board vote.
Under the plan adopted by the board in April, the displaced Fiegel students were distributed to three elementary schools: Allen, Eriksson and Hulsing.
