5 Facts About Plymouth-Canton's New Superintendent

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools officially hired its next superintendent on Tuesday. Here's what you need to know about Michael Meissen.

At the regular meeting of the Board of Education on March 26, Michael James Meissen, PhD was named Superintendent of Schools for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. His contract with Plymouth-Canton Community Schools begins on July 1.

Here's what you should know about Michael Meissen:

  • Meissen has served in public education for 31 years with responsibilities as a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, coach, athletic director, middle school principal, assistant principal (secondary level), high school principal, college level adjunct professor and school superintendent.
  • Meissen joins Plymouth-Canton from Milwaukee Public Schools, where he serves as the District Improvement / School Improvement and Student Achievement Supervisor.
  • Meissen earned a doctorate degree in educational administration and a master’s degree in counseling and guidance, both from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social welfare from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.
  • Meissen will earn $212,000 per year, plus benefits.
  • Meissen previously served as superintendent of Glenbard High School District 87 in Illinois, and left his $215,665-a-year job in 2012, according to the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago.
