60 Teachers, Staff Retire from Plymouth-Canton Community Schools

The annual retirement reception was held at Plymouth High School .

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools hosted a farewell reception to thank retiring teachers and staff members for their combined more than 300 years of service to the district Wednesday night.

The annual retirement reception was held at Plymouth High School and was attended by PCCS staff and board members. Superintendent Jeremy Hughes congratulated and thanked all of this year's retirees for their many years of dedication to the students in the district.

Jan Metzner, a 34-year veteran of PCCS, decided it was time for her to join her husband, who has been retired for the past nine years.

"I've been told men should always retire before women do, because they get their schedule put in place, otherwise it drives the wife crazy," she said, laughing.

Metzner was originally the program assistant for the Plus Preschool Head Start program at Central Middle School, but has spent the last 14 years with Community Education. She said she wants to travel eventually, but has no immediate plans for retirement.

"This whole summer, I want to just chill," she said. "I don't want to do anything because I haven't had a summer off in 14 years."
