Good Morning, Plymouth-Canton! ~ Miracle League of Plymouth

A new agreement with Plymouth-Canton Community Schools helps Miracle League with barrier-free sports field.

Baseball is long over, but Miracle League of Plymouth volunteers who helped dream up the barrier-free field are busy tweaking the project for next spring and a second season. The league gives children with special needs a chance to play baseball -- every member of every team gets to participate.

Canton Patch caught up with Glen Kordick, Miracle League's deputy commissioner, at Tuesday's Plymouth-Canton Community Schools board of education meeting. The school board agreed to modify its lease agreeement for the baseball fields. The district owns the property, at 357 Theodore St. in Plymouth, and has been leasing it to the Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. Foundation, which in turn has operated the adaptive fields. Club members created the Miracle League with the intent of having the new group manage the fields as well as the games.

To do that, the club needed to adjust its lease agreement with the district, Kordick said.

The 2012 season won't start for a few months. In the meantime, Kordick and other volunteers are hoping more sponsors step forward to support the baseball fields and the children whose teams use them. Learn more at the Miracle League of Plymouth's website.
