Plymouth-Canton Students Honored in Monthly Ceremony

Each month, the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP) hosts a Student of the Month breakfast at one of the three high schools — Canton, Plymouth and Salem — and invites the parents and families of the students being honored.

"We give the awards to students for going above and beyond," said Carrie Lawler, associate principal at .

Any staff member may nominate a student for the Student of the Month ceremony, and the honor does not need to be related to academics.

"It can be something as small as saying, 'Hey, I saw you pick up that trash in the hall,' and wanting to encourage that student," said Erin MacGregor, assistant principal at Plymouth High School.

Plymouth High School junior William Askew Jr. was one of the students honored at the ceremony Thursday.

"We're very proud of him," said his mother, Freida Askew. "But I knew he was student of the month material since he was in the womb," she added, smiling.
